Job Summary :
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the company’s financial transactions with a strong focus on construction project accounting, cost control, and contract financial management. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, monitors project costs and profitability, and supports strategic decision-making. The position involves overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, tracking project budgets, reconciling accounts, and mentoring accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Financial Reporting & Project Accounting
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions, including project-related costs and revenues.
• Maintain general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Track and report on project profitability, work-in-progress (WIP), and job costing.
• Monitor revenue recognition in line with percentage-of-completion or completed contract methods.
2. Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Analysis
• Assist in project budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Monitor project budgets vs. actual costs, identifying variances and risks.
• Analyze construction costs (materials, labor, subcontractors) and provide insights.
• Support project managers with financial data for decision-making.
3. Compliance, Contracts & Auditing
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and construction-specific financial practices.
• Review and monitor contracts, subcontractor agreements, and billing terms.
• Support internal and external audits, including project audits.
• Ensure proper documentation for progress billing, retention, and change orders.
• Identify and strengthen internal controls related to project accounting.
4. Supervision & Mentoring
• Review project cost reports and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide guidance on construction accounting practices and systems.
• Promote knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
5. Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare financial and project performance reports for management.
• Maintain organized records of contracts, invoices, cost reports, and supporting documents.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting based on project timelines and billing cycles.
• Provide ad-hoc financial analysis for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Qualifications, skills and requirements :
• 5–8 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the construction or contracting industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or ACCA is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction revenue recognition methods.
• Familiarity with construction contracts and cost structures.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
